BPM: A Brief History

Blue's legacy as a beloved local venue in Portland began in 2005,

in the same room on Congress Street - but half the size.

Some might say the legacy actually began when original owner opened Jim's Neighborhood Cafe,

but you'll have to take that up with the regulars of yesteryear...

Although venue ownership has changed hands a few times since 2005,

Blue has always maintained its reputation as an intimate, quality performance space.

However, Blue's future following the 2020 pandemic was uncertain. Financial struggles, community health concerns, and the general reality of reopening a venue to a world that had been closed for so long meant tough times ahead.

In September 2022, a small group came forward to purchase the business with plans to transition its model to an artist-led, community supported vision.

Enter its current and final iteration;

BPM aka Blue Portland Maine (EIN 99-4314885).

That was then...
This is now!!!
