Evros + Behzad Habibzai

Evros is a traditional music ensemble that performs folk music from Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Armenia, and Turkey. The group brings together a rich tapestry of sounds from the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean, featuring Duncan Hardy on qanun, Eric LaPerna on oud, Steve Gruverman on clarinet and saxophone, Meagan McIntyre on violin, Duane Edwards on bass, Jeremey Zela on guitar, Dorothy Barker on riqq, and Leo LaZarate on darbouka.

The music is fun and interesting to listen but it's even better to dance to. Come learn a few of these dances before Evros plays! Marie Wendt has taught these dances for many years and will be you guide to simple, authentic footwork. No partner or experience needed!

Behzad Habibzai is a music composer and flamenco guitarist. He began playing drums and classical percussion at 10, maintaining a busy schedule performing orchestral, jazz, punk rock, at rock clubs and symphony halls. At 14 he discovered flamenco guitar, going on to portray flamenco forms in performances with several international artists.

Having worked regularly as a drummer, percussionist, and flamenco guitarist, he set his sights on the world of orchestration – entering the world of film music. Habibzai has already lent his voice to several films and documentaries, helping film makers tell stories.
