BPM History

BPM: A Brief History

Blue's legacy as a beloved local venue in Portland

began in 2005 - in the same room, but half the size.

(Some might say it actually began when the original owner opened Jim's Neighborhood Cafe,

but you'll have to take that up with the locals)

In any case... the venue has changed hands a few times since then, but maintains its reputation as an intimate, quality performance space.

Not unlike many of us,

Blue's future following the Pandemic was uncertain.

Financial struggles, community health concerns,

and the general reality of reopening a venue to a world

that had been closed for so long meant tough times ahead...

In September '22, a small group came forward to purchase the business with plans to transition its model to an artist-led, community supported vision.

Enter its current and final iteration;

BPM aka Blue Portland Maine (EIN 99-4314885).
